In March 2004, owing to the experience and reports collected by the Department of Social Rehabilitation, we decided to establish a first regional office of Chandrodaya (CLASS-Dolakha). Establishment of this office is the first step to address the issue of street children in the countryside where the problems really begins. Children-at-risk flee from their villages due to family violence, social exclusion, alcohol-drugs consumption, lack of family planning, etc.
In April 2004, the first office of CPCS-Local Action Service and Support (CLASS) was set up in order to run awareness programs as well as prevention, development and empowerment activities in Dolakha and nearest districts.
CLASS-Dolakha is slowly going to expand its activities to finally include all of the following programs and activities :
1. Educational help and support for children from families with socio-economic problems.
2. Awareness, alphabetization and empowerment programs for deprived persons basically by the means of non-formal education.
3. Sensitizing and raising awareness of local groups (women, youth, farmers etc.) about the problems of the city's street children, who have a village background and about the following subjects: domestic violence, alcohol, unemployment, parents-children relationship, health, hygiene, children's rights etc.
4. Field visit system in village areas.
5. Family counselling about child assistance and various other subjects.
6. Street children rehabilitation in community, school and family.
7. Awareness programs at schools about city's dangers and dreams, drugs, HIV, children's rights.
8. Volunteer service in local schools.
9. Occasional development programs by infrastructure building.
